A very common bird to its native region, unfortunately it is also it being considered one of the world’s worst invasive alien species in areas where it has been introduced  due to its food habit –mainly fruit eating habit and aggressive nature.

The red-vented bulbul is easily identified by its short crest on the head. The body is dark brown with a scaly pattern, head is blackish . The rump is white while the vent is red for which the bird is named. The black tail is tipped in white. Both male and female  are similar in plumage, but young birds are duller than adults.

SIZE: About 20 cm

The red-vented bulbul is vocal bird and has distinct calls for different acts such as greeting and begging, as well as two distinctive alarm calls. This species frequently calls during pair bonding and in mating.

Though It considered as invasive species for its fruit eating habit in the places where it is introduced but Red vented Bulbul also eat  insects even small reptiles( such as geckos ). The red-vented bulbul tends to swallow fruits whole and thus the seeds travel through its digestive systems completely intact, making the red-vented bulbul particularly important for dispersing plant seeds

The red-vented bulbul found in a variety of habitats, from forest to urban parks and gardens. It is most commonly found in areas like bushes, open forest,plains and cultivated lands. Red vented bulbul builds its nest, preferring the safety of the depths of bushes and tree cavities rather than open branches.

The red-vented bulbul breed year-round but breeding activity peaks between January and October.Normally lays 2-4 eggs, incubates in 14 days.

Red vented Bulbul introduced in many parts of the world .Its established it presence in Middle east -UAE, Bahrain , United States, New Zealand, Argentina Many Pacific Islands like Fuji, Hawaii, Soma and the places it introduced is considered as Invasive alien species.
