Red Jungle Fowl

Length of cock 65-75 cm, hen 42-46 cm, weight 1 kg (average). Cock has yellowish-orange, red and black feathers with bright red comb on the head. Hen is brown with numerous light and dark streaks. Food includes various types of grains, seeds, insects etc. Nests on the ground with sticks and twigs. Lay 4-6 eggs. Hen only incubates. Eggs hatch in 16-22 days. Distributed in natural hilly forest, tea gardens and the Sunderbans. Common resident of Bangladesh. (ANM Aminoor Rahman)
