Description

They are large hawks having slender body with long, narrow wings and long legs. They have a characteristic flight marked by kink in the wings making an M shape which resembles a gull in flight. They are brown above and white below. Wings are mostly white with a prominent dark patch when seen from below. Sexes are fairly alike. Juveniles have white spots on the back and buffy shadings on the breast.

They are a common winter visitor. Normally hunts around water bodies. Their staple food is fish.
